Went On Spring Break!

Yes, I went on spring break along the Platte River where the Sandhill cranes and snow geese are migrating. My friends Jim and Julie took Julie's mom Laura and I along on their way to Iowa for her Auntie's 93rd birthday party. They dropped me off at Melinda's home in Omaha while they went on to Iowa for the party. Julie and Melinda are my high school buddies from way back when.

While on the way we stopped to view the miraculous migration of the cranes. What a beautiful sight. I have never  seen them during their migration and have always wanted to.

In route to Sidney to catch my ride, I stopped at Paqui's to drop off Rico. Boy, Breqkon is getting getting so BiG! We all went to a fish fry of one of Paqui's friends. It was nice to get my grandma fix and see both the grandkids. I then headed down to Sidney in a dust storm that rivaled the 30's! I stopped at the cemetery to put flowers on Brian's grave along with all the other family members' graves that have passed on. Boy, what an ordeal that was with the strong wind and dust! I could hardly stand up.

While staying in the big city, Melinda took me to several wonderful places to eat that are not in my neck of the woods. She also took to me shopping and to the Joslyn Art Museum. What more could I ask for. When Jim and Julie returned we had a bonfire and burned out old man winter and brought in Spring. You certainly couldn't tell it by the weather lately though!

Saint Patrick's Day Memorial

It is almost Saint Patrick's Day and it will be a day to honor the Irish. Recently it is a day to remember Brian. For Brian decided to leave this world on the coat of a Leprechaun to the end of the rainbow.

"When the blue skies fade to dusk, it's goodbye to old Sundust and that's the time I'll lay that harp to rest..." We miss you but know you are truly feeling light free!

Life Signs

It has been a week of consequences. Monday I was doing my daily spa meditation when a large bird flew out of the hills. It glided down and over where I was sitting. This happened about a year ago too. Right before Brian passed away. Last year I felt the bird was a golden eagle because its wing span was way too large to be a hawk. But this Monday's bird had a white head and tail feathers. It was a bald eagle! I could hardly believe my eyes. Such a majestic bird that gives such meaning to our lives. I truly feel that the bird I saw last year which I thought was a golden eagle, in fact was a young bald eagle. I am sure he comes to hunt the numerous rabbits that inhabit the property. It isn't hard for me to visualize Brian soaring with that eagle and watching over me.

Speaking of my spa, the past two years it has been leaking off and on. I have tried to get it fixed several times but it never lasts. The spa is about 15 years old and has been moved once and used regularly. The spa sales and repairman said he would give me a good price on a new one and take my old one in on a trade. It is a big investment, but I love taking my spa and use it practically everyday. Spas really help my osteoarthritis and relax my mind. So I took the plunge!

The blizzard that was to come today has been downgraded and is not going to dump as much snow. I don't mind the moisture that comes with the snow, we really need it. It is the wind part that I take issue with. Soon spring will be upon us with its bursting of new life. Babies have been arriving in our family.

My niece, Ila and her husband Matt had a 9# 15 oz baby girl yesterday. Congratulations on the arrival of Madilynn Sue Miller. I will be her great aunty!

Roar, The Lion Said

It has been a very busy week working and playing the Lion's game. Soliciting businesses for our annual fund raiser prizes and trying to sell tickets for The Lottery. It is a worthy cause for all the money for tickets goes back to Alliance's community projects. Wednesday night was spent at the Hemingford Legion Club enjoying the Lion's couples belated Valentines dinner. The Legion out did themselves, for the food was GREAT! Lori (a fellow Lion member) and I went together as a couple. The odd couple for sure!

Monday Paqui, Zeyda, and Breqkon came for a visit overnight. It was fun to have them here. Zeyda wanted to come to visit Grandma really bad, I think she likes to play on my iPad. Paqui helped me start on the monumental task of going through Brian's music room. I have tried several times to start and didn't have the heart for it. Paqui helped me get past that emotional barrier. Thank you Paqui, it makes it easier when someone can help you get through the rough stuff!

I also have been getting bids on seven replacement windows for my house. It has been quite the experience since I was not versed on construction lingo or how to do measurements. This old lady has been braving uncharted territory and learning the differences in windows at least. Pictures tell a thousand words and the pictures I sent with measurements helped the poor contractors visualize my window space.

There is another new appliance at my home.  I wanted to have extra cooling space and so when I got my new indoor refrigerator the other went to the garage. It worked out there for two weeks, that's all. So I learned that you need a particular type of refrigerator to withstand the cold and the heat. Needless to say I have myself a Gladiator garage refrigerator to do the job. It surely looks tough enough!

Well the Easter invites and decorations are out. I am looking forward to Spring in three weeks. Next week I will try and post some more of my memories album.
