A Memorial Weekend That Was Memorable!

It has been quite a weekend for sure. Saturday and Sunday was  spent at the Box L's branding.  It is always a great event to attend, even though I don't do much other than take pictures and help with kitchen duty. I always appreciate the great hospitality the Isham and Voss families extend to me.

Can spot this cow, look at her horns!

The next day Andrea gave us greenhorns a tour of where Crazy Horse's grave site was and where the white man had their trade camps located on the White River in the late 1800s.

Curt from Florida, me, Nick from New Zealand, then Jessamyn, Andrea, and Joy Voss.

Sunday evening I returned home and mowed the lawn just in time for the arrival of Paqui, Zeyda and Breqkon. I took Zeyda on a ATV ride, cooked artichokes and we watched a movie.

Yesterday we all packed up and traveled to Lewellyn, NE to  barbecue chicken at Dan's place. We got to tour the old hotel with his new antique shop and his new apartment across the street. I chased home a thunderstorm that dumped another quarter of a inch of rain. HOPEFULLY I will get my garden in soon...only if I would stay put!

Zeus Has Blessed Us

Zeus, or as I tend to believe, God has blessed us with some rain! Friday night I could hardly sleep with all the lightening and thundering going on. Thunderstorms started to pass over from four-o'clock in the afternoon until early morning. My rain gauge collected eight tenths of an inch. Saturday I went to Scottsbluff to attend Marc's sister's wedding and received another six tenths while I was gone. I know it doesn't sound like much to people who live in wetter climates, but it was so NEEDED here! We have been in a drought these past few years and hopefully the heavens will continue to open throughout the summer.

Paqui was a bridesmaid and Marc a groomsman in Yolanda and Carlos's wedding. It was a beautiful wedding and the party afterwards was great! Everyone literally danced all night. I was assigned to Breqkon during the wedding and after until he went to Aunt Mary's for the night. Then I took Zeyda home and we slept in the her double bed, along with Rico. It made for a cozy night.

Today we were all were moving a little slow. Paqui and I went to pick up Breqkon and he was glad to see his mommy. He watched me while I cooked breakfast. Even the Bob was relaxing!

However, I did miss Jay and Jessamyn's branding Saturday. Unfortunately they got rained out before they got done. Jessamyn sent me a picture of her and her sweet horse Hef, though.

Happy Trails!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all of us woman of maternal instincts and fertility. It was a beautiful weekend at the Voss homestead and we the family had many events to attend to! I was invited to come up on Thursday for both grandsons' musical program and then to stay for Taylen's eighth graduation on Friday afternoon. It is definitely hard to fathom that time has gone by so fast. It just seems like yesterday that Taylen was starting kindergarten and now he will be starting high school next fall.  I also went to Jarret's football scrimmage in the evening and on to a high school graduation party after with all the family. Call me tag along Mary, but I don't mind.

Saturday was the perfect day for Jessamyn to plant her deck flowers and Jay to help with yet another branding in the morning. However in the afternoon, we all took off for Shell Lake and tried our hand at fishing. Taylen tried out  his new chest waders that we got him for his graduation gift. Not many fish of size were caught, but it was our first attempt to brush up on our old angling skills. Sunday we gathered with the Voss side of the family and had a Mother's Day meal here at Gordon. We grilled, stuffed ourselves and soaked up the sun golfing. Wow, no wonder I was beat when I got home last night.

Last weekend I was fortunate enough to enjoy a supper with my brother and his wife when Linda and I where in Ft. Collins on the way home from our Denver trek. Just had to post this picture of us and how much more I resemble my brother in my older age, lol! Then I got a new picture of my little Zeyda and Breqkon, so you will have to indulge me on that one!

Heading West

Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire, 3,165 ft.

Going on a trip to the foothills of Colorado. Not as daunting as my friend Julie's trips to the top of mountains. How I admire her from afar the fortitude of her convictions and physical stamina. Here I complain about shoveling two hundred pounds of manure and tilling my garden and hardly being able too move the next day. What a wimp I have turnout to be.

Julie on top of the world.

Going to Denver and then to Ft. Collins with my friend Linda. Instead of climbing mountains we are going to see a view. A view of the musical now playing at the Buell Theater in downtown Denver. Staying the night and then venturing down the front range to Ft. Collins to do a little shopping. Going to visit my brother and his wife, who has graciously invited these two carefree lasses to supper.

I want to congratulate my nephew Kevin Charles and his wife Shannon on having a new baby girl, Esmeralda. She and her Mom are doing well. It is nice to have the Lafler side of our family grow with all these new little additions after so many loses.
