Memoral Day and The Offical Start of Summer

Whew! What a week its been. Tuesday I had the pleasure of attending my granddaughter's first preschool program. Zeyda is just three and I am all already beginning to go to her events. Of course I have attended many of my grandsons' programs and anticipate that I will be involve in all their lives for many more.

Saturday I had a great new experience. I was invited to Marc's niece Cirea's quinceneara in Scottsbluff. It started with a Mass, then great food and ended with a dance. It was very elaborate and she had six attendants with male escorts. The kids all did two dance routines at the dance that where choreographed. It was a blast until I found out my grandson Jarret was in the hospital in Chadron.

Jarret kicked a can that had gasoline in it (in which he didn't realize) into a bonfire that was started out at the Box L during their branding. He has first and second degree burns on his lower leg where his pants caught on fire. Unfortunately he is a hurting unit. Jarret had to spend the night in the hospital and mama Jessamyn (bless her heart) stayed with him. He needs daily dressing changes and occasional debridements. It will put a stop to baseball and swimming for awhile.

Hurray, I finally got my garden in today! I am praying to the garden gods that it won't freeze, it got down to 32 again last night. I am running out of time though before the big surgery. I also did an antigrasshopper jig, as I did see some critters on the mint already. Thought if they saw me dance it would scare them away, ha! I remember trying to sway Brian into spraying the hoppers but he refused. He was a protector of the many birds that graced our home. So I will also continue to do jigs, curse and squash so I also can respect my bird friends. I will also invite our neighbor's guineas over for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Keep On Trucking

Another busy week! Tuesday I ate lunch with Linda and then flew up to Rushville to watch my grandson's spring music program at the Rushville Middle School. Taylen played the drums in the 7th grade band and sang in the all school chorus. It was nice to be there to support our music prodigy!

Then Wednesday Julie came for an overnight visit. She had been to Sidney visiting her mother for Mother's Day. It is always good to see her and get my emotions whipped into line with tapping them away. Thanks Julie for the inspiration and how I admire your ability to scale those mountains with only seventeen left out of thirty eight. Julie took this picture on the way out of Sidney at Brian's grave. The lily that Jessamyn, boys and I planted when we were down to Sidney for Ila's wedding is flourishing. It is still alive like the memory of my beloved!

As We Honor Our Mothers

It was hard, don't let me kid you. Yesterday's Mother's Day celebration with my girls and they're families was bitter sweet. It was the first Mother's Day I have spent with out their father. However, as I look on to my grandchildren, the next generation, I find the suave that helps heal those open wounds left with the bereavement of my loved one. Solace is meeting each new challenge with God's helping hand.

Jessamyn and Jay invited Paqui, Zeyda, and I to Rushville to church with a buffet following with Jay's family. Poor Marc had to work. We topped the day off with a great game of golf at the Gordon Country Club. It was such a beautiful day!

Today I am heading to Chadron to get my new SUV fitted with a towing package. My neighbor Carol will be riding along for conversation and lunch. Tomorrow we vote here in Nebraska and I start some physical therapy for the tingling sciatic nerve problem in my leg. The doctor thought it might help to get some inflamation under control before the big knee surgery. Hopefully it will help.

Have a great week and if it quits freezing at night I might get some gardening in.

Moving And A Shaking

It continues to be busy with occasional periods of solitude. Getting it done is the operative word isn't it?

Last week I had an appointment with my orthopedic doctor. The decision has been made to replace my old tired out right knee on June 1st. I also have been having tingling and burning sensations in my lower back, leg and foot. Now I have to go to Scottsbluff for a nerve conduction test tomorrow and pre-op visit on Thursday. I will be burning up the road and putting on the miles on my new car.

Friday the Lion's Club put on their yearly fund raiser and lottery. The Lion's Club members honored Brian and dedicated the night to him and showed a picture of him playing his guitar on the overhead along with a prayer for our family. My fellow Lions are great people and have come together for us through Brian's illness and after, ROAR!

Saturday Jessamyn, Taylen, and Jarret met me here in Alliance and we all went to my niece's wedding reception at the Sidney Elk's Club in Sidney NE. We had a great time visiting with family and had a wonderful brunch the next day out at Kevin (Brian's brother) and Tammy's home.

Matt and Ila Mitchell

Sunday after getting home I was sitting and relaxing a little while watching the sun go down when lo and behold a turkey hen was crossing the yard heading home to roost. She was taking quite a chance that Rico the chihuahua wouldn't notice. Brave hen!
